Amanda Goodman, BBC News
‘You can only be struck by the resilience the interviewees display, and the trust they place in Howard – repaid several times over by a work of commemoration that will also surely provide considerable consolation.’
Mike McCahill, The Guardian
Cinematographer/Sound Recordist/Composer/Editor/Animation – Oscar Downing
Oscar Downing is freelance videographer specialising in cinematography, sound design and animation. He has had worked on over twenty five corporate videos and independent short films as the Director of Photography, Editor, Sound Engineer/Editor and Composer. His latest short film, Self Conscious, was officially selected for the London Short Film Festival 2017. Oscar has designed and built pieces of his own kit such as specialised camera mounts for cars, a dolly and lighting.
Oscar constantly researches, develops and tests ideas. For example a technique used in Self Conscious is rotoscoping animation. He designed and built a projector frame to project an image on to a piece of paper allowing him to hand paint each frame. This technique is time consuming but the imperfections and variations give the video an organic human feel, which makes the audience work to interpret the image and draws them in. He has since been approached by another film company to use the same technique for a new film. Oscar has a strong visual aesthetic and a great attention to detail to create the right look and feel for his work including time lapse and animation. He is passionate about his work, a good collaborator and dedicated to producing the highest quality films on a realistic budget.
