Taking the 16 Letters that spell out 'WELCOME TO SHARROW', Bird&Bee made giant, coloured, solar powered letters that stood out by day and illuminated by night. They were placed in key locations in and around the ward of Sharrow to generate community participation in a new project called 'The Word on the Street'. The letters were arranged into meaningful words that made statements on significant, high visibility locations around the ward, These places ranged from the tops of buildings and a church spire to the tree tops in the city cemetery and the community Lantern Festival.
Bird&Bee was commissioned to create a highly visible scultpure/sign that marked the Sharrow boundary, created participatory events and gave the area an identity within the city. The seven letters of 'SHARROW' fabricated from steel and powder coated in bright colours were to be placed in locations that marked the boundary and created a 'word on the street walk' through the ward.
